OCICS Graduate Seminar Series CSI5902 (95.594/COMP 5904)
Fall Term 2005 - Winter Term 2006
Graduate seminar supervisor: Amiya Nayak
Office: SITE
Building, Room 5001
E-mail: nayak@uottawa.ca
Course Requirement: This course aims
at training your skill in making a public talk, including your thesis defense.
To pass this course, basically (i) you have to attend all of the seminars held
both at the University
of Ottawa and at Carleton University and (ii) you have to make a
successful presentation (using transparencies). You need to discuss your
supervisor about what kind of presentation you will give. When you attend a
seminar, please do not forget signing an attendance sheet, which is a proof of
your attendance. The regulation says that you must attend five seminars at Carleton University and five seminars at the University of Ottawa; otherwise, you will fail the
course automatically. Please be punctual. If you are late at any seminar, your
attendance may not be counted. During the academic year, you must give one
public talk (20 minutes for a talk and 10 minutes for question/answer) and the
talk is evaluated by the seminar supervisor and audience. When you attend your
friend's talk, you are obliged to ask questions. To pass the course, you need
to participate in the seminar.
New: To register for the seminar course
you must complete a Permission Form. Before you
can give your presentation you and your supervisor must complete a Presentation Approval Form and give me an
abstract at least 1 week before your
presentation (also email me your abstract). Failure to do so will
result in your presentation being cancelled.
Note: If you complete all your requirements in the Fall, you
will get your grade and you do not have to register in the Winter. Students who
are nearly finished with their research are strongly encouraged to give their
talks as early as possible.
The talks at University
of Ottawa will start at 10:00am and will be held in
Besides an overhead projector for transparencies, a laptop
