MPEG21 Adaptation in Live Multimedia Session

Abstract:

Transmission of Digital Items varies with the user requirements and device capability which thus refers to dynamic adaptation of the content. ISO MPEG-21 Digital Item Adaptation specifies the syntax and semantics of tools that may be used to assist the adaptation of Digital Items. The Recommendation  International Standard is designed to cover a broad range of applications for video content including CATV, DBS, DSL, DTTB, RVS, RTC etc.

This talk addresses the MPEG-21 adaptation of ITU-T H.264 encoded bit stream in order to reduce the frame rate of the stream. For the frame rate, an arbitrary value is provided to which the lower frame rate is computed and the bit stream is adapted according to this computed value. For the purpose of adaptation, ITU-T H.264 codec draft standard has been used. The adapted bit stream is capable of being decoded in a standard H.264 decoder.
