Challenges of Telepresence:
Virtual Meeting Applications
Abstract: As a
means to save on traveling expenses that face-to-face meetings require,
“virtual” meeting applications have been a long time wish for many.
Hindered by technical challenges, they never really achieved all of their
promises.
This
talk will examine some of these challenges such as the need to properly capture
and represent the user's appearance and eye gaze, the requirements and
limitations related to the number of participants and the need for tools to
facilitate collaborative work within these applications. Some of the developed
solutions to overcome these challenges will also be presented.
