Service-Oriented Architecture for Distributed Simulation on the Grid

Abstract:

High Level Architecture (HLA) has become the standard architecture for distributed simulation. Run Time Infrastructure (RTI) provides the implementation of HLA standards. Grid computing facilitates coordinated work over different geographical areas. The Globus Toolkit middleware version 4 (GT4) has become the standard platform for Grid computing. The early research focuses on taking advantage of both HLA/RTI and Grid.

This presentation will introduce the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) on the Grid. SOA consists of schemas to develop simulation components and simulation applications. Each simulation component is implemented as a GT4 Service. SOA separates the component interface from service interface. The loose coupling among services in the SOA relieves the simulation developers from profound knowledge of HLA/RTI programming. Grid technology provides coordinated work and secure access to distributed resources.
