The Haptic Application Markup Language Framework

Abstract:

The field of Haptic Research faces a persistent problem; namely portability of virtual environments and their compatibility with the different haptic devices. Currently, there is no direct way of being able to manipulate a virtual environment with a multitude of haptic devices without having to modify the environment to suit the hardware.

Enter HAML. What is the Haptic Application Markup Language? How will this research topic create a nearly plug-and-play environment for haptic researchers, where the user can use different devices to manipulate and interact with the same virtual environment.

A young idea that was born here, at the University of Ottawa, the HAML Framework could potentially do for Haptic devices what SensorML did for sensors… and even more.
