Improved Ant Routing for Sensor Networks

Abstract:

The field of routing and sensor networking are important, challenging research areas of network computing today. Advancements in sensor networks will enable a wide range of environmental monitoring and object tracking applications.

Routing in sensor networks is a difficult problem of which complexity drastically increases with the size of the network. Therefore, biologically inspired intelligent algorithms are used to tackle this problem.

Ant routing has shown good performance for sensor networks. Here, I present the current use of the swarm intelligence for routing in communication sensor networks, explain different ant routing algorithms and show why some existing ant routing algorithms do not work well for sensor networks. In addition, I propose new ant routing algorithms in sensor network which meet the requirements for sensor networks including energy consumption, success rate and time delay.
