	has definition A spectroscope fitted with a device such as a photoelectric cell for measuring the spectra observed with it.
	has definition A device, usually based on a finely etched grate that performs the function of a prism, for breaking up light into its constituent parts and making a photographic or electronic record of the resulting spectrum. When lacking a means for recording the spectrum, the device is called a spectroscope.
	has definition An instrument that records the amount of light in each range of wavelength, that is, in each range of color. In general, each type of astronomical object, such as a star or a galaxy, will emit a characteristic spectrum of light. (See spectrum.)

Kinds of spectrograph :

• diffraction grating spectrograph (2 kinds, 5 facts)
• Fourier Transform Spectrometer (2 facts) (FTS)
• imaging spectrometer (2 facts) - Class of instruments which preserve the image field while also determining the spectrum. Integral Field Unit (IFU). Usually implies some kind of image slicing either with facets or fiber optics.
• NICMOS (2 facts) - Near Infrared Camera for Multi-Object Spectrography.
• spectroheliograph (2 facts) - Device with which spectra of the various regions of the Sun are obtained and photographed.
• UVES (2 facts) - Ultraviolet Echelle Spectrograph.
