ISSUES AND CHALLENGES IN WIRELESS MULTIMEDIA

ABSTRACT

This talk deals with some issues and challenges associated with multimedia data transmissions over wireless. It covers aspects like adaptive decoding, error control, power aware coding and transmission techniques, and some multimedia security issues. Main objective of this talk is to present a broad overview of some of the areas of research that can be looked into when dealing with wireless multimedia.

With the increase in use of wireless devices (pda, laptop etc.), the user demands are no longer limited to simple increase in data rates, for instance. These devices have limited energy and battery power. In addition, the limitations adherent in wireless channels and mobile users also posses many challenges when sending audio/video to these multimedia devices. In order to meet the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements significant improvements have to be made in the areas of performance and energy management.
