Title: Web-Based Mapping of Real-Time GIS Data

Abstract:
Google Maps is an example of how Web 2.0 technology such as AJAX can
be used to make online map services easy to access, user-friendly and
fast. Thanks to flexible web-based mapping APIs, it is now easier than
ever to plot and distribute GIS (Geographic Information System) data
to a large audience. For example, users can view "mashups" of
geographical data such as housing information from Craigslist plotted
on a Google Map. Most data plotted so far, however, has been
relatively static. This presentation will discuss how real-time sensor
data (such as live GPS information) can be displayed on the web,
requiring users to have nothing more than a standard web browser to
gain access to that data. Examples will be given that are part of
larger undergoing project undertaken by the NCCT research team, of
which the presenter is a member.
