Title: Energy Usage Optimization for Datacenters
Abstract:
The rise of cloud computing has led to large-scale distributed systems
that can include hundreds of thousands of servers in datacenters across
the world. Even though computers are cheaper more power efficient than
ever, rising electricity costs have outpaced savings from efficiency.
There have been several approaches to reducing energy usage in
datacenters, including improving the efficiency of individual servers
to exploiting electricity market dynamics when load balancing. With the
deployment of the smart grid, new possibilities are available for
reducing electricity costs.
This presentation introduces power demand routing and speed scaling
techniques and a framework for testing the effectiveness of these
solutions for real-world datacenters.
