Symantec Endpoint Protection for Windows XP and above

As the name indicates, this is the client version of Symantec Endpoint Protection. This component can be installed under Windows XP/Vista/Windows7/Windows 2003 and 2008 server.

The University of Ottawa has acquired a license for Symantec Endpoint Protection for all Campus. The license covers both on-Campus and home computers for all University professors, staff and students.

Please note:

  • Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection in MANAGED mode is mandatory for on-Campus installations. The software is kept up-to-date regularly using SITE's server (ID2B), which downloads the latest virus definition files on a daily basis.
  • Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection in UNMANAGED mode is recommended for laptops and home installations.

Be aware that in order to protect the Symantec license, downloads are restricted to the Campus domain. If you need to install it at home, you can either purchase the Symantec SEP CD from the Campus computer store, or you can use the University's VPN to obtain access to the University network from home.

Note:

Older versions of Symantec's antivirus client are vulnerable to a worm that exploits a security hole in the company's corporate antivirus tool. Make sure that the version of your installed client is Symantec Endpoint Protection and NOT Symantec Antivirus. You should uninstall any version of Syamantec Antivirus 8.x, 9.x, 10.x then download and install the lasted Symantec Endpoint Protection from this website;
