About Me

My name is Wassim, a PhD candidate and part-time professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering program at the University of Ottawa. I am a member of the VIVA Research Lab (Video, Image, Vision, Autonomous systems). Also, I am an Artificial Intelligence Engineer at Pleora Technologies , working on AI solutions for quality inspection applications. My primary research interests are deep learning for machine vision applications, embedded systems optimization, and software engineering project management. Specifically, I work on person re-identification and tracking using convolutional neural networks in edge environments. Most recently, I was involved in a research partnership with Sensor Cortek on developing a solution for depth-thermal image registration for ADAS applications. Earlier, I had a research partnership with Pleora Technologies on performing dynamic real-time multisource image stitching with optimization for embedded systems, and another research partnership with SMATS Traffic Solutions on in-vehicle occupancy detection using thermal images and convolutional neural networks.
