Title: RTLS-Based Hand Hygiene Monitoring and Notification
System
Abstract:
Raising infection rates in healthcare are a global issue that causes
unnecessary suffering and death cases. Literature highlights that
one of the crucial factors that reduces those kinds of infections is
better "hand hygiene". Due to the lack of automated systems that
could help monitoring hand hygiene compliance and reporting on
collected data, some hospitals use direct observations, surveys,
dispensers usage measurements and other such methods to monitor the
compliance of care providers. Our proposed system takes advantage of
emerging infrastructure in hospitals, and in particular of Real-Time
Location Systems (RTLS) and intelligent soap dispensers. We expect
our RTLS-based approach to not only replace the current methods, but
also to enable interactions with care providers by notifying them
when they do not perform expected hand hygiene actions while
performing care processes.
