Open Research Projects
Open Undergraduate or Graduate Research Projects
Projects can lead to a 4th year project or a Master's Thesis
Some funding is available
Project 1: Statistics for Machine Learning
Current Machine Learning Evaluation strategies make minimal use of
statistics. In this project, the student would evaluate which aspects
of general statistics are relevant for Machine Learning Evaluation.
Project 2: Generating Realistic Artificial Domains for Machine Learning
Machine Learning research suffers from the dearth of available realistic
domains on which to test their algorithms. One way to remedy this problem
would be to generate artificial domains, based on realistic ones. One idea is to train a classifier on available data, and then generate new data using this
classifier. In this project, the student would experiment with this idea
and explore the kind of data deformation worth applying.
Project 3: Visualizing Classifier Performance
The purpose of this project is to experiment with various projection methods and distance measures in order to understand which ones are of greatest interest for the evaluation of machine learning algorithms. The ultimate goal would be to build a package that allows machine learning users to select the visualization method they wish to use.
Project 4: Your Idea
If you have an idea related to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning
and/or Text Processing, I will be glad to discuss it with you. Hopefully,
we will be able to negotiate a topic of interest to us both!
