Policy for missed assignments, or absence from the midterm or final examination

 

Absence from the final examination

a)      Absence for reasons of serious illness must be justified by a certificate from the University of Ottawa Health Services . The certificate must be submitted to the secretariat of the faculty within the week following the date of the examination. Students who write their exam during their period of illness cannot appeal their results on the grounds of their sickness. It is essential that students consult a doctor before the exam, while they are ill.

b)     Leaving the exam room for any reason (even medical) after receiving the questionnaire will require an appeal to the committee on academic standing.

c)      Absence for other serious reasons must be justified in writing, with supporting documents, within the week following the date of the examination. The faculty reserves the right to accept or refuse the reasons put forth. Reasons such as travel, employment, and errors in reading the examination timetable are not accepted.

Absence from the midterm examination

a)      Absence for reasons of serious illness must be justified by a certificate from the University of Ottawa Health Services . The certificate must be submitted to the course professor within the week following the date of the examination.

b)     Absence for other serious reasons must be justified in writing, with supporting documents, within the week following the date of the examination. The professor reserves the right to accept or refuse the reasons put forth. Reasons such as travel, employment, and errors in reading the examination timetable are not accepted.

c)      In the case of a justified absence from the midterm examination, the mark entered for that examination could the same as that for the final examination (unless a makeup midterm can be offered by the course instructor).

 

Missed assignments

a)      Failure to submit an assignment for reasons of illness must be justified by a certificate from the University of Ottawa Health Services . The certificate must be submitted to the course professor as soon as possible after the assignment due date.

b)     Failure to submit an assignment for other serious reasons must be justified in writing, with supporting documents, within the week following the due date of the assignment. The professor reserves the right to accept or refuse the reasons put forth.? Failure of a student?s home or laptop computer system is not accepted.

c)      In the case of a justified missed assignment, the mark entered for that assignment will be the average of all other assignments.

d)     At most one assignment will be excused with justification.? The mark entered for any subsequent missed assignments will be zero.
