Telelogic Tau

Telelogic TAU: It supports the SDL profile of UML (for State diagrams, this is called the transition-oriented notation). The Swedish company Telelogic (now bought by IBM) has provided a tutorial introduction to TAU (using the Coffee Machine as example) and there is also the UML introduction by Alan Williams that is based on the notation supported by this tool.

There is also a Quick-Reference sheet which shows the different graphical notations of various UML diagrams.

The tool can be used on the computers in the SITE labs without problems (at least in most labs). If you want to install the tool on your computer (you must be within SITE to get access to the SITE licence) you may follow the TAU Installation Guide.

Important Note: When you want to do some simulation of a model, there is usually a problem with finding the C-compiler. In 2009, Robin Tropper explained necessary precautions for having a suitable C language environment for the Tau tool. Another fix-up was proposed by Miguel Garzon in 2011.
