How do we express voltage?

Voltage is expressed as energy per charge unit (joule/coulomb) as in the following equation:

where

v = potential difference measured in volts (V)
w = energy (work) carried by charge in joules (J)
q = amount of electric charges in coulombs (C)

Range of Voltages
