Panel 1: New Features for IP Telephony
Wednesday, June 11th, 13:30
Abstract. IP Telephony, wireless systems, Web services and other technologies
have created a sea change in the types of features that will be offered
to users. The traditional feature set will be supplemented and complemented
by a new feature set, which will in the end replace it. The new feature
set will be marked by intense personalization and customization. Effective
personalization mandates a system that is aware of the user's business and
social relationships so that features may resolve interactions with knowledge
of the user's business imperatives. These features will be created at run-time
with knowledge of the capabilities of the currently available resources
and the relative priorities of the users bidding for them.
The customer value of these services will differ greatly from the value
of traditional services. Results from the social sciences can be used to
provide the justification for these new feature types.
