Topic: Haptic Texture
Abstract:
By texturing objects in a 3D virtual application, the realism of the
simulation is greatly increased. The talk presents two possible ways
of generating Haptic textures. One is an interactive way of acquiring
and synthesizing the Haptic textures, which includes the surface
profile and compliance. Another is a simple algorithm to synthesize
Haptic textures from statistical properties of surface. Generally
textured surfaces need to be precisely defined to a micron level. A
comparison between real and virtual textures based on amplitude
discrimination technique is illustrated.
