Title: Range data: Image acquistion and Surface reconstruction
Abstract:
One
of the major research topics of Dr. WonSook Lee’s group at the
University of Ottawa is 3D face modeling and animation.
Currently, we use the 3D face models got from a Cyberware head
and face scanner at Discover lab for our facial modeling and animation
work.
Range imaging offers an inexpensive and accurate means for
digitizing the shape of three-dimensional objects. With the growing of
number of 3D range scanning productions, you may find yourself asking
“how do these technologies work?” and “how can I make use of the shape
data they produce?”. In this talk, we will introduce several common
range scanning technologies, step through a pipeline that takes the
range data into a single geometric model. There are many techniques
having been developed for the problem of surface reconstruction from
range images. Among them, volumetric method is a robust one to noise
and will also be discussed.
