(On Progress)

Dr. Ören is a professor emeritus of computer science at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Ottawa, Canada. He has been involved with simulation since 1965. Dr. Ören’s Ph.D. is in Systems Engineering from the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ (The first systems engineering academic program in the USA). His basic education is from Galatasaray Lisesi, a high school founded in his native Istanbul in 1481 and in Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Istanbul founded in 1773.

His research interests include advanced methodologies for modeling and simulation, including taxonomies and ontologies, artificial intelligence (AI and simulation, AI and software engineering), agent-directed simulation, agents for cognitive and emotive simulations, representations of human personality and emotions, understanding, awareness; reliability, QA, failure avoidance, ethics, body of knowledge, terminology, and Turkish.

He has over 600 publications (over 300 after his early retirement), including 66 books and proceedings. Some of his publications are translated in Chinese, German and Turkish.

He has contributed to over 500 conferences and seminars held in over 30 countries (over 300 after his early retirement). He has been a visiting professor in Austria, Brazil, China, France, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, and Turkey.

Dr. Ören, a fellow of SCS, received numerous awards, honors, and other distinctions such as SCS Modeling and Simulation Hall of Fame (Lifetime Achievement Award), as well as plaques and certificates of appreciation from organizations including ACM, AECL, AFCEA, NATO, some universities, and Turkish General Staff.
