Daily rhythm in the Kindergarten

8:30 am  Children arrive in the classroom to a welcoming atmosphere as we gather around the table to draw. It is a wonderful opportunity to greet one another and connect to the whole group. Hearts and fingers are warmed up as we draw, finger knit and do string games.

9:00 am  Good Morning Circle and Story

A short circle celebrating the dawn of a new day, and the season helps us stretch our bodies gently and then relax into the story of the day. Folk or fairy tales and creative seasonal stories transport the children on an imaginative journey into the special world that stories take us to.

9:20 am Outdoor play

The children spend the next hour (weather permitting) in the playground in the church yard. Aside from enjoying the elements in their fullness, they are given the opportunity to climb ropes, slide down the slide, dig in the sand or open their bakery in the house-like play structure.

10:20 am  Circle-time and Snack

Songs, verses, and movement reflecting the glory of the season are celebrated.

Following finger games, the lighting of a candle and the singing of a blessing song, we sit down together for a nutritious, communal snack. Once a week, a child brings in a snack to share with everyone. Breaking bread together and sharing little stories about our lives helps to strengthen our sense of community.

10:45 am  Free Play

For 45 minutes to an hour, the children create their world, and play in a creative way, using wooden toys and natural materials. Using open-ended materials, they enter into dramatic role-playing filled with opportunities to develop healthy social skills. Tidy-up and musical games bring an end to the playtime.

11:45am Outdoor play and Pick-up for children enrolled in the morning Program

Outdoor play at the playground or the park close by. The park on Chapel Street is fully fenced, and full of possibilities for large motor development such as swings, slides, balancing equipment, and lots of room to run!

Afternoon Program

Children who stay for the afternoon return to the class for lunch, a rest time on cotton mattresses, and another opportunity for creative play. They are picked up from the classroom by 2:30 pm

Weekly artistic activities include puppetry, watercolour painting, crafts and modeling.
